Consultant general, vascular, and endocrine surgeon

GMC no. 3204467

Krishna Lingam is a consultant with over 20 years’ experience across both the NHS and private practice. As a consultant he has repaired over 2,000 hernias using both open and laparoscopic surgical techniques, and has treated many different types of hernia. Mr Lingam specialises in a technique called Transverse Abdominis Release (TAR), where hernias are repaired with a reduced risk of damage to surrounding structures.

Graduating from the University of Glasgow in 1986, he was trained by renowned surgeons and gained an array of experience in general surgery; this includes the treatment of gall bladder disease, gastritis, and haemorrhoids (piles); bowel surgery, and endoscopies. He also has a special interest in vascular surgery, which includes the treatment of conditions such as varicose veins and aortic aneurysms, and offers treatment to patients with thyroid and parathyroid problems. He completed his Doctorate in Medicine in 1994 which looked at the surgical management of malignant melanoma, and continues to make contributions to the academic community, including publishing his own research and presenting at conferences.

Mr Lingam believes in the importance of a holistic approach to health, and feels it is vital that patients feel comfortable and confident during their appointments. This philosophy is also upheld by his team, which consists of anaesthetist Dr Nandwani, theatre manager Donna King and her team, the outpatient manager Sister Julie Harley and her team, and the ward manager Karen Farrell and her team.

Mr Lingam works mostly from the Nuffield Hospital in Derby. His secretary Sue Da Silva can be reached via email or mobile and can support you with anything from arranging appointments to getting directions to the hospital. No question is too small- never hesitate to ask!
